Fine examples of research!

Last week I was in Leiden for the presentation of the ‘sample sheet’ of Dutch university research. The chair of VSNU (association of Dutch research universities) presented this fine volume to five past and present ministers of education.
The book contains a selection of excellent academic research classified under the following themes: brains and behaviour, society, past and present, the laws of nature and the universe, the living environment, technology, life under the microscope and sickness and health.
Tilburg University is of course included in this calling card for top Dutch research.
In the theme society, past and present, attention is devoted to two Tilburg University research groups.
Under the motto ‘Smart strategies for coping with an ageing population’, Netspar is mentioned as home to academic work on the course of life, pensions and the ageing population and as a successful example of public-private cooperation in the socio-economic field.
The Tilburg Law and Economics Center (Tilec) also occupies a prominent place in the sample sheet. Its combination of economic and legal expertise enables in-depth study of issues concerning the allocation of responsibilities between the market and the government.
These fine examples of research give an excellent idea of the large amount of high-quality research conducted in our institutions.
