It has not gone unnoticed here at the university that a few of our colleagues reached great heights on Thursday 4 June by cycling up the Alpe d’Huez. Lans Bovenberg, Gert-Jan Leenknegt, Christophe Paulissen, Pim Nauts and Geert-Jan Schouten did the name of Tilburg University proud on the famous French mountain. They made it to the top a total of 25 times! Hats off to them!
And they didn’t just do so for their own satisfaction. The Tilburg University team – and other teams – conducted this feat on behalf of the Dutch Cancer Society. Lans and co succeeded in raising 18,000 Euros for the charity. A substantial sum for a very good cause.
In an academic sense, too, colleagues from Tilburg University regularly reach great heights. We cherish such achievements. I think it’s great to see the wide variety of educational and research achievements at our university. There are too many to list here.
The wonderful thing is that academic, social, sporting or musical achievements often go hand in hand. People who perform to the best of their ability and inspire others to do the same. That gives me a sense of pride.
