Tilburg University came, saw and .......

We recently received the good news that four of our (relatively) young, excellent scientists have been awarded a Vidi grant from the NWO (Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research). This will enable them to develop their own line of research over five years and establish a research group. The NWO is making the sum of 800,000 euros per researcher available.

Five Venis already!
This follows on the news earlier this month that five of our young talented researchers have been awarded a Veni grant from the NWO. This involves the sum of a quarter of a million euros for each of the five researchers.

Heavy competition
If you take a look at the list of winners, you will understand just how impressive the performance of our Veni and Vidi winners is. In the recent Vidi round, grants were awarded to 89 scientists (see http://www.nwohome.nsf/pages/nwop_7y3gav).
It comes as no surprise that many of the winners are carrying out research in the areas of beta science, biology and medicine. Only a few awards were granted to the humanities and social sciences. It is worthy to note that all three winners in the field of economic science work at Tilburg University. In the field of Medical Psychology, too, where our fourth winner works, grants are few and far between.
Tilburg has five of the Veni winners out of a total of 29 in the entire domain of Humanities and Social Sciences.

What about the Vici?
The announcement of the winners of the Vici round, the highest category of the Vernieuwingsimpuls (Innovation Impulse), is expected to follow at the beginning of January. The competition is even heavier here. Let us hope that in this too our excellent researchers come to the fore.
